Indentures, 1820, 1825.

Indenture, 1820, between William A. Baird, sheriff of St. Clair County and Thomas Estes, signed by these two with John Messinger and John Hay witnessing. Copy, 1825, of an indenture made in 1815 between Robert Chenney and Calep "a Negro man aged about forty years" and Lucey "a Negro wench aged about 20 years" for them to apprentice to him for twenty years, for which he will provide them with "good and wholesome meat and drink, lodging apparel, necessary and fit for such an apprentice during the full term". The copy was made by John Hay "from Record A of Indentured Servants, pages 38 & 39". The original had been signed by Chenney, Calep, Lucey and Joseph Conway, Clerk of the St. Clair County Court.
